And that’s the thing about people who mean everything they say. They think everyone else does too.

It took me almost a month to complete this book, not because I am a slow reader but because this book has so much to offer and it gets really difficult to digest the turns that this tale takes from time to time.

The evolution of Afghanistan from a peaceful nation into a war-struck country parallelly with the evolving lives of two bestfriends divided by status and caste differences is both emotional and moving at the same time.

Plot

The Kite Runner is a tale of Hassan and Amir, two best friends. Amir being the narrator of this story explains the relationship between the two of them in a manner that depicts a naked picture of human nature, the selfless as well as selfish acts, the love as well as the hatred, the loyalty and respect as well as the betrayal.

The boys live in Kabul, Afghanistan and are both excited for the upcoming Kite-tournament which is going to change their lives forever. This kite-tournament is a chance for Amir to become worthy in his father’s eyes and for Hassan, the fastest kite runner, it is another opportunity to help his Amir Jan win this tournament.

Amir is battling with his kite in the sky, with his final opponent when the fight concludes and Hassan starts running to collect the falling kite, his last words before the devastating incident that will just make your eyes wet and wouldn’t let you touch the book for a period of time, “Amir Agha! For you a thousand times over….”

I was scared to continue reading the book for a period of time, because the incident is horrifying and extremely dark that makes you wonder what will happen next!

This is definitely one those books which will remain with me for a long time because I cannot un-read what I read in this book for sure.

It’s wrong what they say about the past, I’ve learned, about how you can bury it. Because the past claws its way out.

The war after the kite fight forces Amir to migrate to USA along with his father leaving behind Hassan and taking with him the memories of betrayal which will stay with him for his life.

Recommendation

The story is engaging and emotional, it has some happy and some sad moments but it is never dull and will always force you to imagine and live in Amir’s world.

In the second part of the book, Amir makes sacrifices to win over the evil deeds of his past and the book ends on a kind of unpredictable note. Hope is what this book leaves with you, making you crave for that happy ending.

I recommend this book to each and every person out there. This was personally my first Khaled Hosseini book but won’t be the last for sure.

I hope you read this book and take all that this masterpiece has to offer!!

Happy Reading!!!
